An Integral Approach
At MINI we believe the best way to help solve problems is to look at them from several angles and treat as many angles as possible, resulting in an integral approach. To this end, we offer a wide range of services to individuals, couples and families. Below is a listing of many of our most basic services.
Psychotherapy:
At MINI we offer psychotherapy to individuals, families and couples. Life presents a wide range of difficulties and problems. Whether those difficulties stem from relationship challenges, trauma, illness, loss and grief, spiritual difficulties, or other causes, psychotherapy can help. Dr. Foster’s integral approach has been helping individuals, families, and couples in the Memphis area overcome life’s difficulties for over 16 years.
Life Coaching:
Life Coaching services are available at MINI as part of our comprehensive offering of services. Coaching helps individuals consider and formulate goals and objectives and develop a plan to achieve them. Getting focused and motivated are problems everyone faces and all need support, encouragement, and coaching at times to optimize growth and development. Coaching helps individuals fully utilize their own unique talents and abilities needed to personalize plans and provides an adequate resource team.
Biofeedback and Neurofeedback:
The field of Biofeedback integrates the principles of learning with specialized computer technology to enable people to learn to control physical processes which are often outside awareness or difficult to control. Biofeedback mirrors or reflects back to the individual everyday processes such as muscle tension, breathing or blood pressure to help that person make desired adjustments.
Neurofeedback is a specialized form of biofeedback in which a computer measures the electrical activity (EEG) of an area of the brain. The computer then “feeds back” the signal in a form that is meaningful and useful to the individual. By paying attention to that EEG signal, one can learn to be aware of its fluctuations and modify it by adjusting the underlying neural activity.
Memphis Integral Neurofeedback Institute (MINI) is exclusively licensed in the Memphis metropolitan area to provide Neurofeedback training using NASA developed technology called S.M.A.R.T. BrainGames™, which integrates the best Neurofeedback technology with Sony PlayStation™ and other video games, allowing individuals to play their favorite video games while they retrain their brains.
Dr. Foster frequently integrates biofeedback and Neurofeedback into his work with individuals and families. These tools can be especially useful in helping individuals overcome issues such as ADD/ADHD, learning disorders, anxiety, depression, trauma, and a wide range of other brain-related difficulties.
Comprehensive Evaluation:
MINI offers a number of Comprehensive Evaluation services geared toward helping individuals identify and diagnose specific problems and illnesses.
•ADD/ADHD and Learning Disorder Evaluation for Children: We use a battery of tests including the Wechsler’s Intelligence Scales for Children—IV (WISC—IV), Wechsler’s Individual Achievement Test—II (WIAT—II), Conners’ Parent and Teacher Rating Scales Long Revised Version, and the Integrated Visual and Auditory Continuous Performance Test (IVA+CPT) to diagnose attention and learning disorders. This battery is commensurate with what schools and the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA) require for establishing a diagnosis and receiving classroom accommodations for learning disorders.
•Adult ADD/ADHD and Learning Disorder Evaluation for Adults: Our battery of tests for adults with learning difficulties includes the Wechsler’s Adult Intelligence Scales—III (WAIS—III), Wechsler’s Individual Achievement Test—II (WIAT—II), Brown ADD Scales for Adults, and the Integrated Visual and Auditory Continuous Performance Test (IVA+CPT).
•Neuropsychological Assessment: Using the Halstead-Reitan neuropsychological test battery, we are able to diagnose a wide range of brain disorders, including the presence of traumatic brain injury due to external trauma to the head or internal trauma such as stroke or toxicity. Neuropsychological assessment can also be helpful in diagnosing psychological disorders.
•Quantitative Electroencephalography (qEEG): This non-invasive brain imaging technology is an excellent way of taking a look at the brain to determine how it is functioning. QEEG brain imaging measures the brain’s electrical waves (EEG) in 19 locations in the brain. These measurements are then digitally analyzed and a topographical map of the brain is produced. Because many disorders have been correlated with specific abnormalities in the EEG, this brain map is helpful in the diagnosis of brain related disorders. In addition, the digital analysis of the EEG data incorporates discriminate function analysis to provide more specific diagnostic information.
Peak Performance Training:
MINI specializes in the mental aspects of peak performance training and offers a number of options to help assess strengths and weaknesses and develop personalized performance enhancement plans:
Standardized neuropsychological testing
Quantitative EEG neuroimaging
Psychophysiological assessment and biofeedback training
Repeatable quick measures of focus, memory and reaction time
Computerized training for your mental game
Immersive Neurofeedback for profound awareness training
Floatation R.E.S.T. for Extreme Relaxation
Floatation R.E.S.T.
Floatation R.E.S.T. (Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy), techniques have been around since Dr. John Lilly researched and developed them beginning in the 1950s. Since Dr. John Lilly’s research many scientists have explored the impact of R.E.S.T. on the mind and body of thousands of people and found it to be perhaps the quickest and most direct route to profound relaxation. The positive impact of R.E.S.T. on the musculo-skeletal system, the nervous system, the immune system, and other measurable biological and psychological markers have been well documented.
MINI offers Floatation R.E.S.T. to the public utilizing the most advanced technology in the field from Think Tank International: The Pathfindr FX-2. http://www.thinktank.com.sg
